Melvin Gordon is a professional American football player from the United States. As of the 2022 season, he plays in the National Football Association for the Denver Broncos. He has played in the Pro Bowl in 2016 and 2018. Prior to joining the NFL, he played collegiate football for the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Player Profile and High School Career
Melvin Gordon III was born on April 13, 1993, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He stands 185 cm tall and the running back’s weight was last listed at 98 kg.He attended Mary D Bradford High School. While there, he played both football and track & field. Gordon was also named the Wisconsin Gatorade Football Player of the Year. When he was a senior, he was listed by Rivals.com as a four-star recruit and he received a number of college offers including those from the University of Iowa and the University of Louisville. He ended up committing to play for Wisconsin.
College and Professional Career
Gordon stayed with Wisconsin from 2011 to 2014. There, he received a number of accolades including being named the 2014 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year. In the same year, he was awarded the Doak Walker Award and was also named a Unanimous All-American.He was drafted into the NFL in 2015 by the then-San Diego Chargers, now Los Angeles Chargers. They picked him in the first round and he was their 15th overall pick. In May, he signed with the team for a four-year contract.
In December 2015, he suffered a knee injury that ended his season. In early 2016, it was revealed that he had undergone a micro-fracture surgery. Despite this, he was ready for training camp. In 2016, he was selected to play in the Pro Bowl for the first time.
At the end of 2019, he became a free agent and in 2020, he signed to play for the Denver Broncos. The deal was for two years and it was worth US$16 million. He debuted with his new team in Week 1 2020. He re-signed with the Broncos for a one-year contract in 2022.
