Chris Carson is an American former professional football running back who played his entire five-season career with the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL).
Player Profile, High School, and College Career
Christopher Dewayne Carson was born on September 16, 1994, in Biloxi, Mississippi, United States of America. The powerful running back stands 183 cm tall, and played at a listed weight of 101 kg.He attended Parkview High School in Lilburn, Georgia, where he developed his hard-nosed running style. Taking an unconventional route to major college football, Carson first attended Butler Community College in Kansas from 2013 to 2014, where his impressive production caught the attention of Division I programs.
He transferred to Oklahoma State University, playing for the Cowboys from 2015 to 2016, and showcased his ability to excel against top-tier competition in the Big 12 Conference.
Professional Career
Carson was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round (249th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.Despite being picked near the very end of the draft, Carson aggressively fought his way up the depth chart during his rookie training camp, quickly earning the trust of head coach Pete Carroll. Although his rookie campaign was cut short by a leg injury, he exploded onto the scene in 2018.
Over the next two seasons, he became the undisputed engine of the Seahawks' offense, posting back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing campaigns in 2018 and 2019 while racking up 16 total rushing touchdowns in that span. His bruising, downhill running style perfectly embodied the physical identity Seattle sought to establish.
He remained highly productive as a dual-threat back in 2020, catching a career-high four receiving touchdowns in addition to his work on the ground. However, four games into the 2021 season, he sustained a severe neck injury that required surgery.
Retirement
After exhausting extensive rehabilitation efforts in an attempt to return to the field, Carson was forced to officially announce his retirement from professional football in July 2022 due to the severity of the neck injury.He concluded his impressive, hard-fought five-year NFL career with 3,502 rushing yards, 24 rushing touchdowns, 107 receptions, and an average of 4.6 yards per carry.
