Los Angeles Chargers chose Williams with the 7th overall pick in the first round of the NFL draft in 2017. On May 11, 2017, Williams officially signed a $19.74 million worth four-year contract with a $12.50 million signing bonus. He finished his 2017 rookie season with 11 receptions for 9 yards in 10 games and 1 start.

He recorded his first professional touchdown in Week 2 in the 31 to 20 victory versus Buffalo Bills. In a battle against Los Angeles Rams the week after, Williams had 4 receptions for around 81 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. Williams finished the 2018 season with 43 receptions for 664 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.

In 2019, Williams successfully recorded 49 receptions for 1,001 receiving yards and 2 receiving touchdowns. In Week 5, Williams recorded 5 catches for 109 yards versus New Orleans Saints. He also recorded during the 30 to 27 overtime loss. Williams recorded his very first career interception in Week 16.
