Zach Ertz
Zach Ertz is a professional American football player in the National Football League (NFL). He currently holds the tight end position for the Philadelphia Eagles. He is a Super Bowl champion and a two-time Pro Bowler.
Ertz grew up with a large influence in football since his father used to play for the Lehigh University football team. However, Ertz first love when it came to sports was originally basketball, rather than football, due to his size and height. With encouragement from key people including his mother, Ertz finally grew to love football and began to look at it as a sport that he actually enjoyed playing.
Ertz attended high school at the Monte Vista High School in Danville, California. He played football as well as basketball. After his senior year in Monte Vista, he finished his football season with 56 receptions, 756 receiving yards, as well as 14 receiving touchdowns. He was eventually named to the All-East Bay Athletic League first team.
He attended Stanford University and played for the Stanford Cardinal football team. He was red-shirted for the 2009 season, but played a total of 13 games in 2010 with 16 catches, 190 yards, and 5 touchdowns. That same year, he had two receptions as well as a touchdown in the Orange Bowl.
He performed spectacularly in the Fiesta Bowl as well as in the Rose Bowl that he was named All-American by consensus, became a finalist for the Mackey Award, and was named to the All-Pac-12 first team selection. Ertz finally announced his intention to enter the NFL Draft after the 2012 season.
Ertz was selected in the second round by the Philadelphia Eagles. At the start, he was signed to a rookie contract but was later on given a five year contract extension thanks to his talents on the field. He tried to make career highs during his 2017 season but eventually given a bye-week and limited duty to a hamstring injury. His comeback on week 10 was a striking contrast, becoming the first Eagle in the 2017 season to garner 100+ yards receiving 10 receptions and seven touchdowns.
In 2018, he broke the record for most receptions by a tight end with 113. His current player statistics are 437 receptions, 4,827 receiving yards, and 29 receiving touchdowns.
