Michael Alex Crabtree Jr, also fondly known through his Twitter handle King Crab, is an American professional football player for the National Football League. He is the wide receiver for the Oakland Raiders.

Crabtree was born in Dallas, Texas where he attended the David W. Carter High School. It was here that he played not only football but also excelled in basketball and track. He didn’t start off as a wide receiver, rather he played quarterback for the Carter Cowboys, his high school football team. His performance marked him as a four-star recruit. Crabtree was offered many football scholarships, from Baylor down to Kansas, but he ultimately chose the athletic scholarship offered to him by Texas Tech University.

During his freshman year in college, Crabtree was redshirted due to problems with his transcript and a position change of wide receiver from original quarterback position. When he was finally able to play, he made the most of it. He broke the record for most touchdown receptions made by a freshman receiver. In fact, he was even named top freshman of the nation at the time by CBS Sports. While his sophomore season wasn’t as great, he was still featured on the cover of the NCAA Football 10 for Xbox 360. Crabtree was also able to achieve a total of eight NCAA records, even with only two season at Texas Tech. Prior to starting his stint with professional football, Crabtree is a decorated player and received much honors due to his accomplishments with Texas Tech.

Before playing for the Oakland Raiders, he was first drafter by the San Francisco 49ers during the 2009 NFL Draft. It wouldn’t be until 2012 when Crabtree would once again gain recognition for his skills. This is in large part due to Colin Kaepernick’s down-field passing. When Crabtree became a free agent in April 2015, he was signed a one year contract with the Oakland Raiders. He made such a stellar performance that he was given a four year contract extension.
