John Booty is an American former professional football quarterback. He is best known for commanding the high-powered offense of the USC Trojans during the mid-2000s. He shortly played in the National Football League (NFL) with the Minnesota Vikings and the Tennessee Titans.

John David Booty was born on January 3, 1985, in Shreveport, Louisiana, United States. The quarterback stands 188 cm tall, and his playing weight was listed at 97 kg.

He prepped at the famous football powerhouse Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana. Booty put together a legendary high school career, throwing for 8,474 yards and 88 touchdowns. Showing immense confidence in his development, he chose to reclassify and graduate a full year early to jump straight into the collegiate ranks.

Enrolling at the University of Southern California (USC), Booty spent his initial seasons displaying incredible patience, backing up future first-round draft pick Matt Leinart. Despite navigating a severe back surgery to repair a bulging disc in early 2006, he won the starting quarterback job outright for the 2006 season.

Booty enjoyed an outstanding breakout campaign, earning First-team All-Pac-10 honors and capping the year off with a magnificent performance in the 2007 Rose Bowl, where he threw for 391 yards and four touchdowns to defeat Michigan.

He returned for his senior season in 2007, leading the Trojans to another Rose Bowl victory, this time defeating Illinois.

Professional Career

Booty was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft.

He entered a highly competitive quarterback room in Minnesota. He played during preseason showcases while developing on the practice squad and serving as a reliable depth asset behind Tarvaris Jackson and Gus Frerotte.

Booty continued his professional journey by signing with the Tennessee Titans late in the 2009 season, reinforcing their pocket depth. He completed his active NFL career during the 2010 offseason program by joining the Houston Texans' practice squad, where he lent his extensive conceptual knowledge of west-coast passing schemes to their training camp rosters before transitioning away from the gridiron.
