Brett Favre retired this year after 17 years in the NFL.
I was sure that he meant it, despite the fact that there were comments at the time that he wasn’t really serious, in particular from John Elway.
And today the news has been released that Favre still feels “the itch.”
I hope he doesn’t come back…I hope the Packers won’t let him come back.
His skills were great at one point, but they have faded - his judgement in particular and penchant to throw interceptions - at the most inopportune time - have cost his team games too often.
One really wonders why he can’t just sit at home and enjoy time with his family. Do the hunting thing. Or go into the broadcasting field if he misses the game so much.
But to actually come back to the game, less than six months after leaving it? After his big retirement ceremony?
Kids of 18 are supposed to be the ones who are unsure, who are supposed to second-guess their decisions, but men of 39 should be able to know their own mind from the get-go.
If Favre does come back, he should be made to earn his spot on the team - the Packers if they take him back, or some other team that makes the mistake of picking him up.
If he can actually earn his way onto the teama and into the starting spot…well, more power to him.
