With so many NFL players behaving badly, the fortunes of a team can shift quickly with an arrest, altercation or conviction. Here are a few of this week’s bad boys.
Atlanta Falcons reserve safety Daren Stone, who played in 12 games last season making nine tackles, was arrested for DUI early Sunday. Stone, who in 2007 was a sixth round pick out of the University of Maine, was released from Atlanta City Jail on Sunday after posting bond. The bond was reportedly close to $1,600. As of Monday, there was no comment from the Falcons.
The NFL announced on Friday that Chris Henry, who was released by the Cincinnati Bengals after being arrested on April 3, 2008, for criminal damaging and assault, has been suspended indefinitely. Henry did have permission from the court to try out for other clubs, but the suspension eliminates that option. His trial date is set for June 24 in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court. This was the wide receiver’s fifth arrest since been chosen by the Bengals in the 2005 NFL draft. If he is acquitted, Henry could be reinstated.
The investigation into a shooting outside of Marvin Harrison’s Philadelphia garage and car wash has intensified. Harrison, who plays wide receiver for the Indianapolis Colts, has denied being involved in the shooting. The incident occurred about seven weeks ago after the Pro Bowl receiver got into a fistfight at Playmakers, a bar that he owns. Later that night the shooting occurred with one man being shot in the back and another in the hand. A two-year old boy was also injured by car window glass that was shattered by a bullet. Ballistics tests revealed that the bullets used in the shooting were fired from a gun owned by the Colts player.
