Bowden Bows Out

Well, what have you done for me lately? This could very well be the thoughts that Bobby Bowden has going through his mind right now.

Well, what have you done for me lately? This could very well be the thoughts that Bobby Bowden has going through his mind right now. The man is the coach at Florida State, where he spent the last 34 seasons. Bowden is the second winningest coach in major-college football behind Penn State’s Joe Paterno.

Bobby Bowden will end an illustrious 44-year coaching career after the Seminoles play in a bowl game at the end of this season. The 80-year-old Bowden has won 388 games in his career at Samford, West Virginia and Florida State. He spent the last 34 years at Florida State where he accumulated a 315-97-4 mark. His college career record overall is 388-129-4. Not bad.

The Florida State Seminoles won two national championships under his leadership: 1993 and 1999. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006. Even tough the Seminoles are not as strong a program as in years past, Bowden only had one losing season(5-6) in his first year at Florida State, 34 years ago.

It is safe to say that Bobby Bowden has left an indelible impact on college football. He will be missed. Rest easy, you have earned it.
