The Kansas City Chiefs have won the Super Bowl for the second time in four years with a thrilling 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Arizona.
Patrick Mahomes starred for the Chiefs, winning the Super Bowl MVP after he completed 21-of-27 attempts for 182 yards, with three passing touchdowns.
The Chiefs had trailed 24-14 at half-time but rallied, scoring with every second-half possession, clinching the win with Harrison Butker’s field goal with 0:08 remaining.
Mahomes, who battled an ankle issue, produced two fourth-quarter touchdown passes, firstly to Kadarius Toney, before another for Skyy Moore.
Toney had set up that opportunity after a 65-yard punt return, the longest in Super Bowl history.
Eagles QB Jalen Hurts ran his third touchdown of the game to square the game up at 35-35, but Butker’s 27-yard attempt after Mahomes worked the clock secured the win.
“It’s everybody. It didn’t come from one person,” Mahomes said.
“Everybody said we’ve got to step our game up. Our defense played their arse off in that second half and our offense found a way. I just want to thank everybody.
Travis Kelce, who scored a first-quarter TD and finished with 81 yards on six receptions, called out the critics who wrote off the Chiefs.
“Not a single one of y’all said the Chiefs were gonna take it home this year,” he said. “Not a single one.
“Feel it and on top of it next time the chiefs say something, put some respect on our name.”
Chiefs veteran head coach Andy Reid insisted he had no retirement plans after the game, instead wanting to savour the moment.
