The Arizona Cardinals certainly don’t think that the Eagles veteran quarterback is all washed up. Various reporters and pundits have been wondering if Donovan McNabb, who has played unevenly this year, is nearing retirement. On Thanksgiving, McNabb silenced his critics by leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a decisive 48-20 victory over the Cardinals.
McNabb completed 27 of 39 passes (69%) for 260 yards and four touchdowns. He tossed no interceptions and did not fumble. The fact that the vet QB was able to play mistake-free was eye opening. In his last two starts, McNabb was responsible for seven turnovers.
In the same game, running back Brian Westbrook carried the ball 22 times for 110 yards (5.0 yards per carry) and two touchdowns. The Eagles offense amassed a total of 437 yards and 32 first downs.
For McNabb, it was a big turnaround. Coach Andy Reid had benched him just four days prior. The five-time Pro Bowler was sullen at that time, looking despondent on the sidelines. Last night as the game came to a close, he was jubilant.
The game was played in Philadelphia before a crowd that, at first, was tentative about the star quarterback. McNabb completed his first six passes. When his seventh went incomplete, Eagle fans jeered him. But that was the only negative reaction he received all night. McNabb proved to be no turkey on Thanksgiving.
