The Dallas Cowboys have certainly had their problems as of late. Cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones has been suspended by the league for his latest drunken run-in with the law. Additionally, star quarterback Tony Romo was sidelined after he injured his pinky on his throwing hand this week. He is supposed to be out for a month or so.
But Romo has said that he wants to play with his broken finger. The Cowboys will meet the St. Louis Rams this week and their star QB, who has been working with splints and wraps around his finger, threw some passes on Wednesday.
This season, Romo has completed 64.0% of his throws for 1,689 yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions. He’s been sacked a total of seven times. Romo’s rating is a very fine 103.5.
If Romo does sit out for a few weeks, the Cowboys will put backup quarterback Brad Johnson on the field. In 2007, Johnson, who has not played as of yet in 2008, completed seven of 11 passes (63.6 COMP%) for no interceptions and no touchdowns. His rating stands at 85.0.
Thus far this season, the four-and-two Cowboys find themselves in second-place. First is certainly possible as long as they can handle tough division opponents— the New York Giants and Washington Redskins.
For Romo, the question concerning his viability is paramount. The fact is that an injury such as the one that hampers him can be played through with pain management and by adjusting his delivery. Is an injured Romo better than a healthy Johnson?
