A leg break is a kind of delivery bowled usually by leg spinners in cricket.
The bowler uses the wrist of his/her hand to bowl the ball as opposed to the fingers in other styles of bowling.
For a right-arm bowler, after pitching the ball spins to the right into the orthodox right-handed batsman. Leg breaks are difficult for a right-handed batsman as if the ball deflects from the edge of the bat it can result in a catch behind the wicket.
Famous exponents of leg breaks are Shane Warne and Anil Kumble who are among the top four all-time Test cricket wicket-takers.
One variation of a leg break is the googly perfected by Warne. Bernard Bosanquet is credited with inventing the googly, which turns the other way. It is also known as the wrong'un, bosie or bosey.
Left-arm bowlers who bowl leg breaks are known as left-arm unorthodox spin bowlers. Historically they were called chinaman.
