By 2012, the Bangladesh Cricket Board created the cricket match Bangladesh Premier League based on the Twenty20 form of the match. Six of the teams would be participating in the inaugural tournament, from 9th February 2012. The teams that represent six different cities of Bangladesh, including Barisal, were put up on auction in Dhaka. The team of Barisal Burners was bought by ALIF SSL Sports Holdings Ltd for a price of USD 1.01 million.
