He is a former football player who has turned to cricket and currently plays for the county team of Sussex. He used to play as a striker for Brighton & Hove Albion. He was released by the club on 31st October 2008. He has also played football for clubs like Woking and Bognor Regis Town.
Following the footsteps of his uncle Mike Gatting, he got into cricket and debuted for Sussex in 2009. In eleven first class matches played so far, he has scored 441 in sixteen Innings at a batting average of 27,56. Including a top score of 152, he has scored one century and one half-century till date. He has also taken a wicket in these matches. In sixteen List A matches, Gatting has scored 394 runs at an average of 30.30. With a highest score of 99 he has three half centuries into his account.
