Wesley Winfield Hall was better known as Wes Hall and is a former West Indian player who was born in Barbados. He took part in 48 international test matched for his country and also played 170 first-class matched in his country’s domestic cricket scene.

Hall was a right handed batsman as well as a right armed pacer. He was one of the most acclaimed pacers in West Indies who was known for his speed and agility. At six feet and two inches, Hall had graceful actions and could bowl for longer spells.

While growing up, Hall attended the Combermere School on free scholarship and played for the school cricket team. He even played office cricket while working for a cable office in Bridgetown. Soon his talent was well spotted and he was included in the Barbados XI team squad in 1956. Not many people know that he started his career as a wicket-keeper but soon shifted his efforts and concentration to fast bowling.

Hall had one of the longest run-ups in Test cricket. Once at a match at the Lord’s, Hall bowled for more than three hours at a stretch on the final day. He took 192 wickets from 48 test matches at an average of 26.38 throughout his career span. His best bowling was 7 wickets for 69 runs. In first-class cricket, he took 546 wickets from 170 matches.

After his retirement from test cricket, Hall performed serviced as a selector as well as a manager for the West Indies cricket team. He was also elected as the president of the West Indies Cricket Board in 2001 and served till 2003. In the 1980s, Hall was the Minister of Tourism and implemented many sports-related initiatives that have been globally adopted today.

Presently, at the age of 71, Hall is serving as a evangelical church leader.
