Erapalli Prasanna
Erapalli Anantharao Srinivas Prasanna is a famous cricketer from India who was born in Bangalore and was a spin bowler. His specialty was in off-spinning the ball and was a member of the Indian Spin Quartet. Prasanna is a graduate of the National Institute of Engineering from Mysore.
Prasanna made his debut for India against England at a test match held in Madras (now Chennai) in 1961. Later on, he was also selected for what became his first overseas tour to play against West Indies. However, after the tour, he was not seen in the Indian squad for a span of five years. He utilized this time to secure an engineering degree and returned back in 1967 after which he became a regular for his national side.
During his career, Prasanna played for 49 tests and 235 first-class matches. His test cricket bowling averages are 30.38 while that for first-class matches is 23.45. Prasanna’s best bowling figures for test matches is 8 wickets for 76 runs and for first-class matches is 8 wickets for 50 runs. Prasanna collected 10 wickets in a match on 2 occasions for test matches and on 9 occasions for first-class matches.
Career Highlights
Prasanna was awarded the Padma Shri award by the Indian government in 1970.
He also received the Castrol Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.
