Tauseef Ahmed’s moustache and afro hairstyle made him look similar to Lionel Richie. He was a cunning and skilled offspinner, but his career was overshadowed by his more illustrious contemporaries, Iqbal Qasim and Abdul Qadir.

In 1979-80, he was selected in the Pakistan national cricket team from nowhere to play against Australia. He made a good impression by picking 7 wickets in his debut match. In 1986-87, he was chosen to play against India at Bangalore. In this match, Ahmed and Iqbal Qasim each took 9 wickets and played a crucial role in leading Pakistan to a 16 run victory. In this match, the Indian batsman, Sunil Gavaskar scored a masterful 96 and ended his Test career.

During the 1988-89 season, Tauseef played against Australia at Karachi. In this Test match, he had figures of 47.4 overs, 28 maidens, 44 runs and 3 wickets. His average was better than Abdul Qadir’s.
