Upul Chandana bats right handedly and bowls legbreak in the Sri Lanka cricket team. He has also played for Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club, Nondescripts Cricket Club, Kolkata Tigers, ICL World XI and Gloucestershire.

Chandana’s One day International debut took place on 14th April 1994 at Sharjah against Australia. He scored 18 runs in 37 balls including 1 four. He could not take any wicket in the 3 overs he bowled, none of which were maidens and in these 21 runs were scored. Australia won this match by 9 wickets when 79 deliveries were remaining. Chandana debuted in Test cricket on 12th March 1999 at Dhaka against Pakistan. In the 1st innings, he scored 15 runs in 44 deliveries inclusive of 3 boundaries. He bowled 47.5 overs, out of which 7 were maidens, conceded 179 runs and took 6 wickets. In the 2nd innings, he faced 58 deliveries and in these scored 28 runs. Pakistan won this Test by an innings and 175 runs.
