Akalanka Ganegama is a right handed batsman and right arm fast medium bowler of the Sri Lanka Cricket team. Some other teams he has played for are Sri Lanka A, Nondescripts Cricket Club and Kandurata.

Ganegama made his first class debut and List A debut in 2000-01 season. He debuted in One day International cricket on 8th April 2001 against Pakistan at Sharjah. He bowled 4 overs and conceded 27 runs while taking 2 wickets – those of Shahid Afridi and Imran Farhat. While batting, he was stumped by Humayun Farhat off the bowling of Saqlain Mushtaq on the very first ball he faced. Pakistan won this match by 16 runs.
