Nuwan Zoysa is a left arm fast medium bowler and a left handed batsman with the Sri Lankan cricket team. He has also played cricket for the Basnahira South, Sinhalese Sports Club and the Deccan Chargers cricket teams.
Nuwan Zoysa started playing first class cricket in 1996. He made his debut in International cricket in a test match against New Zealand at Dunedin in 1997. Zoysa bowled 40 overs and gave away just 112 runs claiming the wicket of Chris Cairns in the first innings. Coming on to bat he was dismissed for a duck after facing 7 balls. In the second innings, Zoysa scored 16 runs off 16 balls and remained not out when the Sri Lankans were asked to follow on. New Zealand went on to win the match by an innings and 36 runs.
A few days later Zoysa played his first One day International in a match against New Zealand at Christchurch. Zoysa claimed 2 wickets and gave away 29 runs in the 7 overs that he bowled and helped Sri Lanka win the match by 6 wickets. In 1999, in a test match against Zimbabwe, Zoysa recorded a hat-trick by dismissing Murray Goodwin, Neil Johnson and Trevor Gripper in the first three balls of the match.
