Andre Dwayne Russell is a professional Jamaican cricket player. Presently, he also plays for the Jamaican national cricket team other than the West Indies cricket team in test cricket. Apart from a fast pacer, Andre is an all rounder who made his test cricket debut against Sri Lanka team in November 2010. During the 2012 IPL Players Auction, Andre was bought by the team of Delhi Daredevils.
In 2011, he made his ODI debut in the 2011 Cricket World Cup match held against Ireland at Mohali. At this match, he scored 3 runs as he got bowled by John Mooney. But he impressed all with his bowling techniques, proving to be the turning point for the team and a victory for the team by 44 runs.
Andre had a poor home series match against Pakistan, post which he made his mark against the India in the ODI series. However, he was dropped from the first two ODI’s, after which he scored 92 not out of 64 balls in North Sound. He made a 78 run partnership with keeper, Carlton Baugh, followed by an unbeaten 51 run partnership with Kemar Roach, to help West Indies reach 225 runs with 8 wickets. Despite of his all rounder techniques, India won the match with 22 balls to spare.

With Ramesh Sarwan not playing for the West Indies Test Cricket Team, for one reason or another, it is my opinion that Andre Russell should be made the number 3 batsman in the Test Team. Andre has a wide range of attacking strokes. He plays straight and has a calm, sensible approach to batting. I have no doubt that he would succeed as the West Indies number 3 Test batsman, if groomed for the position. Let's remember that Garfield Sobers began his cricket career as a bowler, but ended as possibly the world's best batsman at the time.
