Allan John Watkins> is a former Welsh cricket player who has played for the England team in 15 test matches from 1948 to 1952. Having toured to India and Pakistan in 1951-52 season with MCC, he also participated in ‘A’ tour to Pakistan in 1956-57. In 1953-54, Albert played with the Commonwealth team in Pakistan and India, though due to injury he had to return home early.
Born in 1922 in Monmouthshire, Albert or also known as Allan or Al, he made his debut for the Glamorgan team three weeks after his 17th birthday in 1939, when the World War loomed. This left handed batsman and a medium to fast left arm bowler was a brilliant close fielder, especially at backward short leg. He even played for teams like the Marylebone Cricket Club, England team and the Glamorgan County Cricket.
Allan was also the first cricket player to have scored a century in a test cricket match for England team and has played for the county team till 1961, at the age of 39. After playing a successful series with the MCC, he was voted as the Indian Cricket Cricketer of the year in 1951-52. Later on, he coached school kids, at the Oundle School and Framlingham.
