In 1950, Hamer transitioned to play for Derbyshire County Cricket Club, where he truly found his footing as a right-handed opening batsman. Over a decade, he amassed an impressive 15,465 runs at an average of 31.17 across 294 first-class matches. His career highlight came when he scored an extraordinary 227, and he also notched up 19 centuries during his tenure on the pitch. Notably, he achieved the remarkable feat of scoring over 1,000 runs in ten consecutive seasons.
