On 21st March for the 30th round of the Premier League, Newcastle play Arsenal at St. James’ Park.
After their defeat from the Spurs, the Gunners are in a roll with 5 consecutive victories. They are applying pressure to Manchester City for position number 2 on the table and it is likely that they will get there, as the Sky Blues do not seem to be able to handle this pressure well.
In the next couple of rounds, it will also become clear if the 7 point deficit from Chelsea can be covered as the Blues seem to be losing it. Two possible draws for Chelsea combined with two victories for Arsenal, will be all it will take to breed a close battle in the final rounds for the title.
The weak point has become the strong one for Arsenal. Their so unstable and unreliable defense has managed to concede only 4 goals in the last 6 matches and this mitigates the rather average offensive play that has provided 12 scores. Even so, it is most probable that the streak will count 6 in a row after this one.
The reason being that Newcastle are in really bad shape. 3 losses, 2 draws and a single win is ample proof of this statement. Furthermore, they have not been able to score in two consecutive games, their offense counts only 3 successes in six matches and their defense is in shambles conceding 11 goals.
Taking under consideration the fact that Newcastle have not won any of the last five games against the Gunners at St. James’ Park (2 were draws and the other 3 were won by Arsenal including last season’s 0-1), and that they only count one victory in the last 10 matches played against their opponents, the recipe yields an almost certain win for Arsenal.
It will also be a point of interest whether the Coalers manage to score even once against the current form of Arsenal’s defense.
