Yuvraj Singh has earned a recall to India’s limited overs squad for the forthcoming Twenty20 match and the first three ODIs of the home series against Australia.
The selectors have made four changes to the ODI squad that won the Champions Trophy in England.
Yuvraj replaces opener M Vijay, while Ambati Rayudu replaces his Mumbai Indians team mate Dinesh Karthik.
With injury keeping Irfan Pathan on the sidelines, Mohammed Shami is drafted into the squad as his replacement, and [Umesh Yadav]] has been replaced by the left-arm seam of Jaydev Unadkat.
Yuvraj’s hasn’t played an ODI since January 2013, when he opposed England in Dharamsala. Dropped from the squad for the Champions Trophy, he failed to feature in the series against Zimbabwe, despite a number of leading players being rested by the selectors.
Taking himself off to France, where he underwent a stringent fitness regime, Yuvraj returned in top form.
Then in the A team series against the West Indies, he was the leading scorer for India in the limited overs matches, accumulating 224 runs in three games, including a century and a half-century, for an average of nearly 75.
Karthik, may feel slightly unlucky, as he only faced only 203 balls in 10 matches since his recall to the side, scoring 169 runs at an average of 56.33. While Rayudu struck 101 runs off 163 balls at an average of 50.5 against the lowly ranked Zimbabwe bowling attack.
Shami and Unadkat, toured Zimbabwe, and played all five ODIs, and have retained their places in the squad.
Mohit played in two of those games, one of which, saw him named as Man of the Match, might have hoped to replace Vinay Kumar, but the quick man from Karnataka has kept the faith of the selectors.
