An intriguing Wednesday evening awaits the players and fans as Big Bash League serves up another match, this time between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades.
As the tournament heads into the final few league matches, the battle for points is heating up.
Renegades have by far been the best side this year. They scored four wins on the trot before their flawless run was halted by Perth Scorchers on Saturday.
Despite the defeat, they are still comfortably placed second on the points table though any further hiccups would need to be avoided. Adelaide Strikers, in the meanwhile, have played five matches and won three of them. With a game in hand and a better run rate, the team can lift itself into the top three with a win.
Renegades were found wanting in their outing against Scorchers as the team crumbled badly in chasing a tall total.
Aaron Finch, who until that game had no worries at all, was quick to reinforce that the team needed to rethink and do better. The bowlers failed to strike or contain the runs although Muttiah Muralitharan still ended up with decent figures of 0-29 from four overs.
The batsmen experienced a collective failure they had not experienced before with only Ben Rohrer able to bat freely as he scored 52. The ability to deal with pressure will be tested here should a tall total be set again.
Strikers lost to Melbourne Stars on Thursday in a match that was not as close as the end result suggested. Shaun Tait’s pace makes him a key weapon and Johan Botha wants his other bowlers to contribute around him.
With the bat, Kieron Pollard signaled his intent with a ruthless 65 from 43 balls that was still not enough to win them the game. At their end too, the team will be looking to do most things right and does not have too many worries.
The match starts at 7.00pm local time.
