The eleventh match of the Big Bash League will be played on Wednesday between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades. The match will be played at Docklands in Melbourne.
Melbourne Renegades are top on the points table with two wins from as many matches. Hobart, in the meantime, have been able to score one win from their two matches and are seventh on the points table.
Renegades’ outing against Sydney Thunder on Friday turned out to be a stroll in the park as they won by five wickets in the penultimate over.
Aaron Finch, the captain, has been satisfied with the team’s progress so far but knows the importance of a stretch of good performances in a long season before the knock outs.
The captain himself has top scored in both the matches so far. In addition, Marlon Samuels is someone to watch out for as the West Indian all-rounder holds the ability to turn the game on its head single-handedly.
With the ball, Aaron O’ Brien and spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan remained amongst the wickets.
Hobart Hurricanes suffered a defeat when they failed to put up a sizable total against Melbourne Stars.
Ricky Ponting’s first outing since international retirement did not bear much fruit but the former captain will be keyed up to play flowing cricket tomorrow.
George Bailey, the current T20 captain, knows the importance of a good batting showing and will be urging his batsmen to come good. Owais Shah is their trump card, having had reasonable success in the Big Bash League.
Bowling remains their weak link with Doug Bollinger expected to shoulder most of the responsibility. The left-arm paceman picked up two wickets in a fiery spell in the last game as well.
With the teams chasing winning most of the matches, the captain winning the toss will be tempted to put the opposition in. The match starts at 7.00pm local time.
