With no upsets as such in the league matches, the top eight teams are now set to lock horns in the Super Eights of ICC World Twenty20.
The contest begins with hosts Sri Lanka taking on New Zealand on Thursday. Both teams finished second in their respective groups.
The two teams have had fairly contrasting build ups to the match. Sri Lanka had an easy win against Zimbabwe before they lost by a considerable margin in seven-overs-a-side match against South Africa.
On the other hand, New Zealand have had two close finishes with the Bangladesh fixture ending in their favor while falling short of the tall total against Pakistan.
Sri Lanka will look to use the home advantage to their favor and also start as overwhelming favorites for the match.
They are still waiting on the fitness of Ajantha Mendis though who was the chief destroyer with six wickets against Zimbabwe but sat out the following match.
His fate remains unknown until the toss and should he not be available to play, captain Mahela Jayawardene is likely to award a debut to Akila Dananjaya in a surprise package for the opponents.
Lasith Malinga will hold the key in the death overs - an area of concern for New Zealand. His form will be crucial to the chances of his team.
For the Kiwi side, their defeat to Pakistan exposed several of their problems that have plagued the team in recent times.
Their fielding was ordinary while the batsmen struggled for consistency.
On a positive front though, Martin Guptill has been declared fit for the match and his inclusion will most likely come in place of fast bowler Adam Milne who bowled just a solitary over.
Ross Taylor will need to bat up the order to have a greater influence after coming in to bat at number six against Pakistan.
The match will be played at Pallekele where New Zealand already played their group fixtures.
