Aussies Hammer Pakistan With Record Low

Australia have trounced Pakistan in the third and final match of their Twenty20 series, winning by 94 runs in Dubai.

The Aussies, who had already lost the series after losing the opening two games, posted a challenging score of 7/168 before bowling Pakistan out for a record-low 74.

Young Aussie bowlers Mitchell Starc (3/11) and Patrick Cummins (3/15) were the chief destroyers, with no Pakistan player making more than 17 runs, and only three scoring double figures.

Earlier, Dave Warner had plundered the Pakistan attack all over the ground, scoring a speedy 59 off 34 balls, while his opening partner Shane Watson contributed 47 off 32 as well, as they recorded a 111-run opening stand.

Australia captain George Bailey acknowledged the result was a major boost for his side who had slumped to 10th on the T20 world rankings after their loss in the second game, with the World Cup only weeks away.

“It’s a great win for us,” Bailey told reporters. “We’ve worked really hard particularly since that opening game which was so disappointing for us.

“We were good the other night (losing game two in extra time by one run) and we were even better tonight. Momentum and confidence are important things. But I guess it’s what you do with that. It’s not getting too complacent or carried away with that.

“You’ve then got to go out and replicate that in Sri Lanka. To get the reward of a victory and see the things that we are working on are actually coming to fruition, that’s really important for us.”

Warner was named man-of-the-match, while Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal won player of the series.
