India v New Zealand 2nd Test live and preview

Another stern test awaits New Zealand as they look to avoid further embarrassment on their tour of India.

Another stern test awaits New Zealand as they look to avoid further embarrassment on their tour of India.

The two-match series is led by India after a crushing win for the hosts. The second test will be played in Bangalore, starting from Friday.

New Zealand got one of their worst drubbings in their history as they lost the test match by an innings and 115 runs, inside four days.

It would seem unrealistic to believe that they would have improved drastically, though the coaching staff has been scratching their hair out trying to do so.

The batsmen capitulated to spin bowling, with 18 of the 20 wickets falling to the spinners. Only Kane Williamson was able to show some resolve, scoring a half-century as the Kiwi batsmen folded for scores for 159 and 164.

Former coach Mark Greatbatch has questioned the batsmen’s ability in absorbing the coaching sessions they have been given on how to play spin bowling after Ross Taylor, the captain, suggested the collapse had to do more with mental fears than technical faults.

India had a fairly comfortable start to a new era in their test history with no VVS Laxman or Rahul Dravid in their team.

The pivotal number three spot went to the young Cheteshwar Pujara who scored his maiden ton before being dismissed for 159.

MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli had half-centuries to add to the strong total. It will be a familiar formula - thrusting spinners with the bowling duties - that India will use to put pressure on New Zealand.

Ravi Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha combined to do most of the damage with Ashwin picking up 12 wickets in the match.

The heat combined with the pitch conditions makes India the overwhelming favorites to sweep the series. The match will be played in Bangalore with showers potentially causing minor interruptions.
