The Match:
The 64th game of the Indian Premier League will see the Chennai Super Kings take on the Kochi Tuskers Kerala at the M Chidamabaram Stadium in Chennai. This is a home game for the Super Kings and will need them to get going with trying to qualify for the playoffs by finishing at the top of the table. >
How the two teams match up: Chennai Super Kings are almost through to the playoffs. The Kochi Tuskers are almost out of the tournament. A win for the Super Kings could turn that statement into certainty. However, the other scenario is if the Kochi Tuskers beat the Super Kings. In this case, the Tuskers will end on 14 points in their league standings while the Super Kings will continue to have 16 with a game to spare.
The only way, then, that Kochi can qualify for the next round is if the Knight Riders lose both their games and Punjab do not win more than a game – forcing a three-way tie between Kochi, Kolkata and Punjab.
Ground Conditions: The match will be played at the Chepauk which is a home ground for Chennai. The Super Kings have yet to lose a single game at home and the Kochi Tuskers will find it difficult to overcome them.
The Teams: Mahela Jayawardene goes back to Sri Lanka, from where he takes a flight to England to play the Test series and that leaves Parthiv Patel to captain the side. This will also mean that the playing eleven will be a player short of a foreign player and there is a good scope for the side to get in Muthiah Muralitharan, who for some reason, has missed out on many a games.
The batting will continue to remain the same, although, the temptation to get in Michael Klinger to open the innings with Brendon McCullum will be great.
The Chennai Super Kings will look to bat as well as they have in the tournament so far. They have had the return to form for both, Murali Vijay and MS Dhoni, both of who had been able to get going with their batting in their previous games.
Players to look out for: The Super Kings will need Albie Morkel to regain his bowling form after a poor couple of games even as Dwayne Bravo looks to take over the all-rounder’s role from him.
Prediction: Chenna should win this one with ease.
