Hussey, Raina drive Chennai to win over Rajasthan

There are two teams in the IPL this year who have made life difficult for the opponents at home.

There are two teams in the IPL this year who have made life difficult for the opponents at home. Chennai Super Kings is one and the Rajasthan Royals are the others, who have won almost everything that has come their way, but more importantly, have not looked like they can lose at home.

So, it was interesting to see the Chennai Super Kings host the Rajasthan Royals at the Chepauk in Chennai. And the way it all started out, it seemed like the Rajasthan Royals looked good to ensure that they would be off to a flying start and in turn, get to a challenging target for the opponent. The start was excellent. Shane Watson, who has yet to display his entire gamut of shots in the tournament so far and the out of form Rahul Dravid were at their punishing best as they looked to get the best out of the slowing pitch. And they did a fine job at that, getting a barrage of boundaries in the field restriction overs and getting to 47/0 at the end of the sixth.

The run-rate was expected to drop after the first six overs but that did not happen as Dravid brought up his half century as Rajasthan got to their best score after the first 10 overs in the tournament this season. They were 86/0 in ten overs and a score of 170 loomed large for them.

The comeback came in the 11th over. Shadab Jakati came up with a caught and bowler off stinging straight drive that would have gone to the boundary on any other day. Ashok Menaria, the side’s hard-hitting player was the next to go in the 13th over, as he hit the ball towards long-on and after hitting one boundary, the man in form, Johan Botha fell in the 15th.

The side were 113/3 in 15 overs and the run-rate had fallen drastically. With the momentum lost and Dravid struggling under the Chennai heat, the side managed only 34 runs off the last five overs and were left with only 147 on the board, a score below par.

Chennai lost Murali Vijay quite early in the innings but the pair of Michael Hussey and Suresh Raina ensured that there were no further hiccups for most part of the innings. Both got to half-centuries and by the time Raina had fallen to another short delivery, the Super Kings had won the game with consummate ease.
