The Match:
The 24th game of the Indian Premier League this season will see the Kolkata Knight Riders play the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. This is the fifth game for Bangalore an sixth for Kolkata. >
How the two teams match up:
Having played four games each, the two sides are rather apart in the points table. Bangalore, who had won their first game in the tournament against the Kochi Tuskers, have now lost three in a row. On the other hand, the Kolkata Knight Riders have won three and lost two which has currently put them at the top of the points table. >
Ground Conditions: This is going to be played at the Eden Gardens, which had only recently seen a low-scoring thriller; Kochi Tuskers successfully defending 132 in the game. The strips at the Eden Gardens are different for different games but the bounce will continue to remain low and it will not be too easy for the batsmen to get their strokes going.
The Teams: Kolkata may not change anything despite their loss in the previous game. The reason is that they have an excellent team, with its set of batting at the top, all-round prowess in the middle and the bowling down the order. However, the side may look to get Gautam Gambhir at the opening slot, especially on a pitch which becomes progressively more difficult to bat on – you need to get in your best batsmen at the top against the new ball.
On the other hand, there will be one small worry for the Knight Riders; the form of Yusuf Pathan. He had lost his form in the World Cup and since then, he hasn’t had the best of times in the IPL either. That has caused problems for the side which has no other real big-hitting batsman.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore have not had the best of the times in the tournament. And the source of their problems are related to the way they have bowled in the games – far too many have been conceded by Zaheer Khan, Dirk Nannes is out of the tournament, Daniel Vettori is not picking the wickets while the replacements have not been good enough.
Players to look out for: Kolkata will look to Jacques Kallis to get back to batting through the innings while Bangalore will rely on their batting – T Dilshan and AB de Villiers to get a quickfire 50 or so.
Prediction: Kolkata will be favourites – especially given that the conditions in the ground are quite different from those at home for Bangalore.
