A rain-affected game at the Nehru Stadium in Kochi saw the home team register their second win in as many games on Monday. On a day when there was only one IPL game, the Kochi Tuskers overcame the defending champions Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets, with two overs to spare. Man of the match again>

There had been a sprinkling of rain leading up to the start of the game as well and that had pushed the curator to keep the covers on for the time till the game began. This meant that there was some moisture underneath and the team winning the toss, Kochi Tuskers, had no hesitation in electing to field first after winning the toss.

Kochi were set a target of 135 and were off to a flier. Brendon McCullum continued from where he had left off in the previous game against the Mumbai Indians while the Mahela Jayawardene was aggressive. Jayawardene departed with the score reading 39 but Parthiv Patel came in at three and stole the thunder from the Super Kings bowling.

The pair of McCullum and Patel added 51 for the second wicket that came off six overs only and by the time the two were separated, the Tuskers needed only 45 from 39 balls. The runs were scored by Ravindra Jadeja and Brad Hodge to give them an excellent win.

Earlier, there was considerable movement in the air and off the pitch and Michael Hussey failed to get a start after his man of the match effort in the last game. Murali Vijay was imperious after he got his eye in while Suresh Raina gave him good company but the Kochi bowlers managed to keep a hold on the scoring.

Vijay was declared lbw off the bowling of Thisara Perera when the score was 48 in the eighth over and at 65/2 at the end of the ninth over, it had begun to rain again. There was more than an hour wasted and a total of three overs were deducted from the innings, which meant that the Super Kings had only eight more overs to bat.

Raina smacked a six but apart from that, there was no hit over the top and till the very end. It was in the last over of the innings, after Raina had fallen for 50, that Dhoni and Morkel each slammed a six to get 131 in the 17 overs. The target was adjusted to 135 that the Tuskers needed to get in 17 overs.
