England won their last group match against the West Indies by 18 runs but their thrilling win has not confirmed them of a quarterfinal slot as yet. England now have seven points from six games.>
Andrew Strauss won the toss and elected to bat first. England got off to a decent start with the openers adding 48 runs for the first wicket. Matt Prior scored a run-a-ball 21 while Strauss took 39 balls to score 31 runs. Jonathan Trott too looked aggressive in his brief stay in piling up 47 runs in just 38 balls and hit seven fours.>
From a comfortable 121/2, England lost three wickets for 13 runs as debutant Devendra Bishoo Trott and Eoin Morgan (7) and Ian Bell (27) fell to the pace of Kemar Roach. Luke Wright then hit 44 runs from 57 balls with five fours and together with Tim Bresnan (20*) ensured that England reached a decent total.
For West Indies, Andre Russell picked up 49/4 and Bishoo picked up 34/3 while Roach returned figures of 2/34 as England were all-out for 243 runs in the 49th over.
West Indies got off to a flier with Chris Gayle scoring 43 runs off just 21 balls with eight fours and a six. West Indies brought up their fifty in just 4.5 overs but lost track thereafter as wickets fell at regular intervals. Skipper Darren Sammy, who donned the role of a pinch hitter, hit 41 runs from just 29 balls. He hit three sixes and two fours.
Contributions from Ramnaresh Sarwan (31), Kieron Pollard (24) and Andre Russell (49) kept the Windies in hunt but the team collapsed dramatically losing their last four wickets for just three runs. James Tredwell (4/48) and Graeme Swann (3/36) did the bulk of the damage while Ravi Bopara chipped in with 2/22. James Tredwell was declared the man of the match for his match-winning four wicket haul.
