Bangladesh and the West Indies will go head to head in a crucial game in Group B at the Sher E Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on Friday, March 4. This is a must win game for both the sides as they compete for the fourth spot in the group. >
However, England’s loss against Ireland has opened the group wide open and there could be competition for more than one spot.>
Bangladesh will be confident going into this game. They played well against Ireland and successfully defended a small total. They did it through a combination of some good swing bowling and spin attack.
The performance of Shafiul Islam, who picked up four wickets, will be a boost for the Bangladeshi as they need not have to over rely on spin.
Another worry for the West Indies is that Bangladesh know the ground conditions like the back of their hands. They have won more games in this ground than anywhere else and have played both their games so far in this ground. The pitch will be slow and batting under the lights will be tough.
West Indies will need the bowlers to perform well. Kemar Roach and Sulieman Benn look to be a potent attack but the bowling lacks fire power after them. The injury to Dwayne Bravo also hasn’t helped them and this lack of bowling options could be their weakness. They would need a really big score if they are batting first and for that, they need the top order to shine, like it did against the Netherlands.
Bangladesh haven’t convinced with their batting so far. The middle order struggled after a good start from Tamim Iqbal, who has looked good so far in this tournament. The team needs performances from the others and over reliance on Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan could cost them. This should be a very interesting game and Bangladesh look to be having the upper hand.
