According to the former Pakistan cricket coach, he has been appointed as the coach of the IPL Kochi side but the franchise has yet to confirm the same. The issue has arisen from the fact that the franchise is currently undergoing a major issue with respect to the ownership and has been issued a show cause by the BCCI over it. >
According to Lawson he had been awarded an official designation of head coach, and his contract was for two years. He also added that he should arrive in India next week and take over the reign. However, according to the franchise, the process for hunting the coach was still on and that they were in talks with others as well.
The most recent controversy to hit the IPL Kochi side was the in-fighting amongst the various stake-holders over the rights. According to news reports, there were two factions who had claimed the ownership and instructed the BCCI to not allow the other to be a part.
The BCCI had then asked them to form a company and register it, without which, they would not be allowed to participate in the next edition of the IPL. BCCI chief Shashank Manohar added, “If they do that in accordance of the original rules of the IPL ownership, we are okay with the Kochi franchise.”
Lawson had coached the Pakistani side for a period of 15 months but was sacked after Ejaz Butt had taken over as the chairman of the PCB.
