The Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Amir has said that he did not want to get into match-fixing but because of the powerful player lobby, was forced into the same. According to a news agency, Amir is said to have confessed his role to the Pakistan cricket board chairman, Ejaz Butt and said that he had had no role to play in the same. >
Amir told the PCB chairman that he was forced into the match-fixing by the duo of Mohammad Asif and the erstwhile Pakistani captain, Salman Butt. All three, Butt, Asif and Amir were then suspended by the ICC till the investigations by Scotland Yard were completed.
The Pakistan board has however issued its usual statement that the player hadn’t made any such confession. They have also said that all the cricketers were totally innocent and until the investigations were completed, they would continue to remain so.
PCB’s legal counsel, Tafazul Rizvi said, “All three boys have been saying all along that they did not do anything wrong and they stand by it. They claim innocence, complete innocence and nothing but innocence.”
Pakistan cricket board chief Ejaz Butt has also reportedly decided to go to the UK to meet the UK lawyer of the three cricketers, Salman Butt, Amir and Mohammad Asif. It is not known whether he will meet the ECB chief after being served a notice by the ECB to apologise to the English cricketers for being called match-fixers.
