There were reports yesterday that the West Indian all rounders Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard rejected the one year central contracts from the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). This has led to further reports that the West Indian duo was considering free lancing instead of playing for the West Indies. >
The one year contracts that were offered to them were worth $80000 and would have tied them to the schedule of the West Indies team for the whole year. The figure and the fact that they would have to be available for the year have forced the pair to not consider accepting the contracts.
The two players play in the T20 leagues of different countries. They both play for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, Pollard for a whopping $750000 for the 2010 IPL alone, and Bravo for an undisclosed fee.
The 2010 IPL was Pollard’s first but he has made a great impression so he is likely to be retained by the Mumbai Indians for a huge fee. Bravo, if not retained by the Indians, is likely to be bought by another team for a huge bid.
Pollard also played for the South Australia Redbacks in Australia’s Twenty20 Big Bash and made 190 runs in six matches and helped the Redbacks to the final. He also played for Somerset in the Provident t20 in England. Bravo played for Essex in the final of the Provident t20.
Ramnaresh Sarwan was not offered a contract as the board was not happy about his attitude on fitness. The announcement on the replacement of the three players is likely to be announced in a short time.
