After two enquiry sessions with the Scotland Yard, the three Pakistani players accused in the spot fixing scandal have been allowed to leave home to Pakistan. The players have not been charged thus far but have been provisionally suspended by the ICC. >
The players landed at the Lahore airport on Saturday amidst vociferous supporters waving banners and holding shoes.
The players escaped through the rear exit thus avoiding the angry protesters. However, there were also a few supporters who were holding banners that showed support for the accused trio. The return also squashed rumors that one of the three players, Mohammed Asif, would ask for political asylum in the UK to avoid a violent backlash at home.
The statement released by the firm representing the players said that the Metropolitan Police have been notified of the return of the trio and that the players will continue to co operate in any further enquiries and investigations. The players are not criminally charged.
The trio has been provisionally suspended by the ICC following allegations that the players bowled no balls for cash. The action came only after it appeared that the PCB was not going to sanction the players. Wahab Riaz, another Pakistani fast bowler, will also be questioned regarding the allegations.
