The Pakistan Cricket Board has dropped the three alleged players involved in match-fixing, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt from the Pakistani side for the ODIs and the T20Is against England. The three were said to be involved in spot-fixing, as alleged by a tabloid. >
The PCB has been under a lot of pressure from the ICC and the English cricket board to suspend the trio and not allow them to play in the limited overs series. This was after some of the English cricketers had expressed reservations of playing against them as well.
The three players were then called by the British High Commission to meet him in London, and after the meeting it was announced that the three players will not be a part of the series. The reason behind this was the mental agony that the trial by media had caused them, and so, the High Commission said that the three will be rested from the series.
However, the High Commission did add that he believed that the three players were not guilty and the Pakistani government will fight in the court of law to get them off the hook.
Pakistan plays two T20Is and five ODIs in the limited overs series to follow, and will be led by Shahid Afridi. They will have only 13 players to choose from in the T20Is after the dropping of these three cricketers, but will call for reinforcements for the ODIs to follow. England have announced a 12-member squad for the T20Is as well.
