Australia have named their 15-member squad for their tour of India and it sees the return of Phillip Hughes to the team. Hughes is an opener who had been a part of the Ashes last year, but was dumped after playing only a couple of Test matches. Hughes has not played since then. >
The squad also sees the presence of 19-year-old fast bowler Josh Hazlewood, who had earlier played in a Test against Pakistan, and Nathan Hauritz also makes a comeback after his injury problems. This means that the players who miss out are Usman Khwaja, Steve O’Keefe and fast bowler Clint McKay. McKay had played in India last year in a seven ODI series as well and did a decent job of it. >
Earlier, Ricky Ponting had said that Hauritz was a definite lock-in for the Tests once he was fit to return from his injury.
Chief of selectors, Andrew Hilditch said that the squad sees the return of Hughes who was an extremely talented and exciting youngster. He also added, “It includes a very good mix of experience and new young talent with Steven Smith, Hughes and two young fast bowlers in Peter George and Josh Hazlewood.”
First choice wicket-keeper, Brad Haddin misses out as well, and his place will be taken by Tim Paine, who has been deputising for Haddin for a long time now.
