Pietersen dropped from England, angry

The English side for the ODI series and the T20I series against Pakistan has been announced and there are two major surprises. Kevin Pietersen has been given the boot, whereas wicket-keeper Steve Davies has been called up in both the squads. Dropped from the side>

Pietersen has been battling form issues, and apart from an 80 in the second Test match, in which he was dropped thrice, Pietersen has not even looked half as good as he usually is. He had also lost his contract with Hampshire, who refused to pick him and that meant that he hasn’t had a county to practice in.

Pietersen’s axe is good news for Jonathon Trott, who gets a chance in the squad, but Craig Kieswetter has been removed from the ODI side. Kieswetter position was always under threat after he had failed in a couple of successive series, and he gets replaced by Davies. Davies will also be a part of the T20I side, but Kieswetter also retains his spot as an opening batsman, for his hard-hitting capabilities.

An angry Pietersen lashed out at the selectors, and tweeted, “Done for rest of summer!! Man of the World Cup T20 and dropped from the T20 side too. Its a f**k up!!” He also added that he was going to play for Surrey for the rest of the season after being loaned by Hampshire to them.

He did take down that message a few moments after posting it, but by then, it had been re-circulated around the internet. The chairman of selection, Geoff Miller, said that such kind of a behaviour is not expected from a top English batsman and Pietersen will get spoken to.
