Pakistani chief selector, Mohsin Khan, has said that there was no bias in the selection of the Pakistani side, after being accused by the Karachi City Cricket Association of ignoring players from that region. Mohsin said that the side was selected after speaking with the captain of the side, Shahid Afridi, and the captain, who is from Karachi had a say in the selection. >
The KCCA had earlier lambasted the Pakistan Cricket Board for selecting a side that was made up of players from Lahore and the region around it. They had also said that cricketers like Sarfraz Ahmed, Khurram Manzoor, Khalid Latif, Faisal Iqbal and Asad Shafiq – all from Karachi – were those who should have been selected.
Afridi, Danish Kaneira and Tanvir Ahmed are all from Karachi, but Afridi retired from the game at the end of the first Test match, whereas Kaneira’s continuing failure and Ahmed’s inexperience means that they are not a part of the playing eleven.
On the same day, the KKCA vice-president continued his rant against the cricket board, saying that there were many cricketers who could have been chosen for the series from Karachi. He also added that the issue had been taken up by Karachi with the board on numerous occasions but given that the board had not done too much about it, they had decided to wash their dirty linen in the public.
Pakistan are currently in England and are trailing 0-2 in the Test series.
