Jesse Ryder has been involved in another controversy related to his drinking habits after he was penalised for being “intoxicated and rowdy”. Ryder was not picked for the series against India and Sri Lanka after he was injured and was on a break when the incident occurred. >
Ryder sent a letter to the New Zealand Cricket saying that he had accepted by being “intoxicated and rowdy” had put him in a situation which was detrimental to both, the cricket and himself. He added, “The potential consequences of this event have distressed me over the last few weeks.”
The player also said that he had apologised to the hotel staff after the incident.
Ryder said that he had worked hard on trying to avoid getting into the position that he had got himself into. He also added that he made changes to the way he lived his life, and was committed to continue having a long cricket career for New Zealand.
Previously, Ryder has been involved in window-pane bashing incident that managed to injure his hand and keep him away from the game. This had happened in 2008. There was another incident after that which meant that he decided to give up on alcohol.
Geoff Allott, NZC’s general manger of cricket, said that the cricket board had taken the incident very seriously and was saddened by the “breach of trust and protocol”
