Lasith Malinga will not be a part of the second Test between India and Sri Lanka, after a knee injury has forced the selectors to rest him. Malinga had been the star of the Sri Lankan side in the first Test match as he captured a five-wicket haul against India apart from having scored a half century in the first innings. >
Earlier, Muthiah Muralitharan ha also retired from the Test match format of the game, which leaves Sri Lanka without two of their main bowlers who had ensured the Galle Test win.
Malinga had also won the player of the match award as he had gone on to exhibit a fine all-round performance, scoring a half century and picking up six wickets.
The chief selector, Aravinda de Silva, expressed caution about rushing Malinga back into the game. He said that Malinag had only just returned back to play international cricket and hence the selectors wanted to take it a bit slow with him. De Silva added that the selectors were monitoring his knee and hoped that he made it to the third Test match.
Sri Lanka announced their team for the second Test, which included Ajantha Mendis. Mendis should replace Muthiah Muralitharan in the side, though, it remains to be seen who will play in place of Malinga.
