The IPL franchise of Kochi is in talks with many Indian and international coaches for the enxt edition of the tournament and one of biggest names that they have approached is Steve Waugh. Waugh is a former Australian captain who has never taken up formal coaching before but his record as the captain of the Australian side was impeccable. >
Co-owner Vivek Venugopal said that Waugh was one of the many possible candidates that the side had spoken to for a possible job as the coach of the side. He also added that the decision will be taken after talking to everyone based on the various factors like the kind of commitment that they can give.
Venugopal said, “We have been in discussion with a lot of really good coaches and Steve Waugh is one among them. The discussions are continuing … It will take some time before we finalise the name.”
Venugopal said that the decision to hire the coach will depend on “time commitment, how free they are, how much time they can contribute to the team.” Talking of the players, Venugopal also added that a lot depended on the auctions that will be held in September and the number of allowed players for the other teams.
Kochi was one of the two sides which was won at the previous auctions, and was also at the root of the entire IPL controversy that happened with the sacking of Shashi Tharoor.
