The chief of the Zimbabwe cricket board, Peter Chingoka would look to getting back to Test match cricket in 2011. Chingoka said that he had met the ICC chief, David Morgan and said that the side was looking good to host their first ever Test series in May 2011 since suspending themselves in 2005.
Chingoka indicated that they will look to host Bangladesh in the Test series and also said that the Cricket South Africa has said that they will host Zimbabwe for a one-off Test match every year.>
A political storm in 2005 had meant that most of the key Zimbabwean cricketers had quit the side and the new team did not have the necessary wherewithal to play Tests. Over time, the Zimbabwean has shown improvement, and has exhibited the strength to beat some of the bigger countries.
Zimbabwe had recently defeated India in a couple of ODIs and before that, had overcome Australia and Pakistan in the warm-up T20 games before the World T20.
Chingoka said, “We have gradual progression afterwards by playing sides we think we can compete with, like West Indies and New Zealand. We are developing a strong and competitive domestic competition as a result of the ICC task team’s recommendations, and we are now looking to make a gradual return to Test cricket sometime after the World Cup in 2011”
