Sri Lanka easily beat Zimbabwe in the final of the Micromax Cup to lift the trophy thanks to their captain Tillakaratne Dilshan’s century. Amazing century and captain’s innings>

Batting first, Zimbabwe failed to do justice to their talent exhibited in the previous games as Sri Lanka, slowly but steadily carved away at the wickets. Hamilton Masakadza was the first man out for four, before the Zimbabweans lost their best batsman of the series, Brendan Taylor for 19 to struggle at 29/2 in the 10th over. Taylor was caught by Thilan Samaraweera, who dived to his left to pluck the ball off thin air. Man of the series but lost the final>

Tatenda Taibu got into action with a 20-run stand with Craig Ervine, but it was his fourth wicket stand of 90 runs with Greg Lamb that swung the game towards them. At 139/3 in the 36th over and with a batting powerplay still remaining, there was a good chance for the side to get to 250.

Instead, Dilhara Fernando accounted for Taibu for a well-made 71 and then Lamb fell for 37, as the rest of the batting collapsed away for a measly 199 all out.

The Sri Lankans were favourites to win this one, and the captain Dilshan seemed to be bent upon finishing the game and the tournament off his own bat. He added 160 for the first wicket with Upul Tharanga, and then, got to his century to end the game, nine-wicket victors. Tharanga scored a 72, whereas Dilshan ended unbeaten on 108 to go home victors.

Dilshan was the man of the match, but three time man of the match, Brendan Taylor won the man of the series award.
